My job responsibilities include navigation watches and cargo watches. We regularly do tank entries which happen to be my favourite!
My favourite part of my job is being on the open ocean and getting to meet new people in my crew from various places in the world.
I have faced a few challenges working as a female seafarer. Being away from home has definitely been difficult but having such a supportive crew helps. I am also studying online so it’s difficult to stay motivated. Being disciplined has definitely helped with this.
One change that I would like to see is definitely the clothing! Clothing on board is not unisex, especially the work pants.
My advice to other female seafarers is to make sure you are open minded about the situation. You are going to face difficult times throughout your swing but keep your chin up and remember why you started!!
